Tips for Traveling During a Pandemic

​Traveling during a pandemic can be challenging if you are not properly informed or advised.  My first recommendation would be to book through a travel agency that is constantly monitoring the protocols for each country in order to advise you.  However, these are some tips to consider when you are traveling.
      

• First and foremost, make sure that your passports will not be expiring within six months of your return date of travel. 
• Make sure to read the covid travel protocols of the area you will be traveling.  Find out if you need to pre-authorize your visit on the country website.  Arrange all your paperwork. Get a paper copy of your COVID-19 test results and keep your I.D., passport, and vaccination card all in an accessible and safe place. Many countries require a form to be filled in and a place for you to download your vaccination card. Once you submit the required information, they will send you an acceptance that includes a QR code. Before you go to the airport, be sure to also print out your Digital Passport Locator form and present it when you check in. Also be aware that some restaurants require vaccination cards to be shown. 
• Download a translator app on your phone.  While a lot of people in popular tourist destinations speak some English, you'll always run into someone who may not –– and if you want to communicate clearly, it's best to try to speak the language of the country you're in.
• Pack comfortable shoes (plus one or two backup pairs). For instance, Tuscany, like parts of Rome, is also in the hills, and you'll encounter a lot of steep climbs and uneven cobblestones no matter where you are. Be sure to take care of your feet, because most places are very pedestrian once you're in the city, and the fabulous vistas are always much more enjoyable when you're comfortable. You might also want a poncho, rain jacket, or umbrella.
• VERY IMPORTANT!  Ask your hotel concierge for the best place to get your COVID-19 test before your leave (or any other travel tips). Since they're locals, they'll have all the best knowledge on getting around. The US is now requiring that a covid test be performed one day ahead of travel back to the states as opposed to three. 
• Check with your wireless provider about travel options. Some companies will charge you for using data in a foreign country, but that also gives you peace of mind that you'll be able to stay in touch and use apps like Google Maps with ease. Otherwise, purchasing or renting a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot is a good way to save a little money while also staying connected.
• Always check the CDC website and the U.S. Embassy for information on returning home.
• Plan to wear your mask when entering airports and wear it the entire time you are on the plane unless you are eating or drinking and always be respectful of local restrictions and customs.
